Nelin and Justin first met on Nelin’s first day at a new school in grade five when Nelin was seated next to Justin. Justin was asked to bring Nelin up to speed on their tastebud experiment. He dipped a q-tip into a salty solution and told Nelin it had to be run along her tongue to find where she tasted the salt. Nelin immediately thought “If he puts that in my mouth, I’m going to punch him!” but Justin handed her the q-tip like a gentleman.
Two years later Justin asked Nelin to the Valentine’s day dance and she said yes. The couple dated for two months and broke up shortly after that. A year later, they began dating again and have been together ever since.
Justin offered to plan the holiday party that Nelin and her friends plan each year to celebrate the end of another semester and catch up with friends. Not knowing why Justin was offering to take on the planning Nelin figured it was a load off her plate this year and graciously accepted the offer.
The day of the party Justin was very nervous but Nelin didn’t seem to notice anything was different. On the drive to the party Justin pulled some paperwork out of his pocket and accidentally dropped the business card with all of the engagement ring specifications on it, but managed to hide it away again before Nelin noticed.
After a couple hours of mingling and catching up at the party Justin began making a toast and Nelin was promptly ushered closer to Justin by a friend. Justin started talking about their relationship and how they met while Nelin, who was completely oblivious to what was going on, added her own take on the story here and there. A few minutes in, Nelin noticed a size sticker on Justin’s shirt and tried to quietly remove it, not realizing she was reaching for the engagement ring in Justin’s pocket. Justin quickly batted her hand away and everyone had a good laugh.
Finally when Justin mentioned spending the rest of his life with her, Nelin finally realized what was happening and broke down in tears. Justin pulled out the ring and got down on one knee. It took a moment and she was so shocked she asked if this was really happening and while this scared a few friends that she might say no, she followed with a yes!
Now, almost 3 years later, Justin and Nelin are finished their Master’s degrees and are planning the wedding of their dreams.
